IN FOCUS

Conflicts, Crisis and War

This section brings together analysis, storytelling, and investigations that explore how digital technologies are entangled with systems of war, occupation, and repression. Grounded in the lived realities of WHRDs and frontline communities, the content on this page will explore how digital infrastructures are used to control, surveil, and harm—while also surfacing strategies of care, resistance, and feminist protection emerging from conflict zones.

Tech-Facilitated Violence and Disinformation

This space explores how digital violence and disinformation are used to silence, shame, and isolate WHRDs. From smear campaigns and deepfakes to the algorithmic amplification of hate, this space will document and analyse evolving patterns of digital harm—while spotlighting feminist strategies to expose, resist, and reclaim safe online spaces.

Environmental Defenders

Across the world, environmental and land defenders, many of them women, are being targeted for standing up against extractive industries and ecological destruction. This section traces the digital and physical threats they face, and surfaces community-rooted strategies of care, protection, and resistance.

Big Tech and Defenders

Big Tech’s platforms and business models shape the conditions of visibility, risk, and erasure for WHRDs and human rights defenders. Here, we unpack how platform governance, surveillance capitalism, and corporate impunity impact defenders’ safety—and explore feminist demands for accountability, transparency, and structural change.

Feminist Holistic Protection

Rooted in care and collective power, feminist holistic protection goes beyond physical security to embrace emotional, digital, and community well-being. This space highlights transformative practices defenders are building to stay safe—and stay whole.
